Personal

Full name is Joshua Andrew Hill … born November 2, 1989 … parents are Greg and Denise Hill … older brother, Micah Hill, played two seasons of cornerback at Division II Midwestern State in Texas and was a second-team All-American as a senior in 2009, after playing two campaigns of junior college football at Cisco College … from the same high school as fellow former Cal football player and classmate Kendrick Payne … graduated from Cal in December of 2012 with a bachelor’s degree in African American studies.

After Cal

Took part in Cal’s 2013 Pro Day and the 2013 San Francisco 49ers Local Pro Day … contributed a tackle in the 2013 Casino Del Sol College All-Star Game.

CAL CAREER

Played in 48 games with 32 starts during the last four seasons of his five campaigns with the program from 2008-12 … posted career totals of 214 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss (-18 yards), 1.0 sack (-4 yards), five interceptions that he returned for 46 yards and one touchdown, 24 pass breakups, 29 passes defended, three forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries that he returned two yards … finished his career ranked 10th on the school’s all-time list for pass breakups … a versatile player who played safety, cornerback and nickel back, as well as on special teams throughout his Cal career.

2012

Started all 12 games for the first time in his career and earned honorable mention All-Pac-12 honors in a vote of the league’s coaches … added a pair of team honors, capturing the Andy Smith Award for the Cal player with the most Big “C” time and one of the squad’s two Cort Majors Team Captain Awards on the defensive side of the ball … led team in tackles with a career-high 87 stops to rank 10th in the Pac-12 with an average of 7.2 tackles per contest … added an interception and a forced fumble, as well as nine pass breakups and 10 passes defended to rank second on the club in each of the latter two categories, with his average of 0.83 passes defended per game ranking 10th in the conference … had all nine of his pass breakups and 10 passes defended in his last nine games … was the team’s leader (Oregon) or shared the club’s lead (Nevada, Southern Utah) in tackles three times … opened the season with a career-high 12 tackles and 0.5 tackles for loss (0 yards) vs. Nevada … also had 11 stops and a pass breakup against both Stanford and Oregon … recorded nine tackles, a forced fumble and a pass breakup at USC, eight tackles vs. Southern Utah and seven against Washington … lone interception of the season and fifth of his career came in his final collegiate game at Oregon State when he also had six tackles to take over the team lead in tackles and a season-high-tying two pass breakups … also had six tackles and a season-high-tying two pass breakups vs. Arizona State, as well as six tackles and one pass breakup at Utah … had four tackles both at Washington State and vs. UCLA, adding a pass breakup against the Cougars … had three stops at Ohio State … a second-team midseason All-Pac-12 pick by Phil Steele … had one pass breakup in the spring game..

2011

Played in all 13 games with six starts in the nickel back position … ranked fifth on the team with 49 tackles and was one of five players to share the team lead with two interceptions that he combined to return for 32 yards and a touchdown that was the only interception return for a score by a Cal player in 2011 … added 3.0 tackles for loss (-11 yards), 1.0 sack (-4 yards), five pass breakups, seven passes defended and a forced fumble … recorded a season-high eight tackles at Oregon … had six tackles both at Colorado and vs. Washington State, adding a pass breakup against the Cougars … posted five tackles and forced a fumble at Washington, while also having five stops and adding an interception at Arizona State on the Cal 12-yard line late in the game that sealed a 47-38 win … had four tackles in the season opener vs. Fresno State to go along with a career-high 2.0 tackles for loss (career-high -10 yards) and the lone sack of his career for a four-yard loss … had three tackles vs. Presbyterian, vs. USC and at Stanford, adding a pass breakup against Presbyterian … 32-yard interception return for a touchdown came against Utah … posted a career-high-tying three pass breakups at UCLA.

2010

Played in all 12 games with nine starts, including nine of the first 10 contests, seeing extensive action at safety and as a nickel back while also playing on special teams … had 44 tackles, 2.0 tackles for loss (-7 yards), a team-high-tying seven pass breakups all coming in the last four games and one fumble recovery … had a season-high eight tackles at Nevada, adding 0.5 tackles for loss (-2 yards, first TFL of career) … posted six tackles on three other occasions at USC, vs. Oregon (career-high-tying three PBU) and vs. Stanford (0.5 TFL, 0 yards) … had 1.0 tackle for loss (-5 yards) and a career-high-tying three pass breakups against Washington … other pass breakup came at Washington State … posted five tackles vs. Arizona State, as well as four at Arizona and three at Oregon State among the 11 contests in which he had at least one stop … recorded the second fumble recovery of his career vs. UCLA.

Made a strong contribution as a redshirt freshman, playing in 11 games and making five starts at a cornerback position … contributed 34 tackles, two interceptions that he returned 14 yards, three pass breakups, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery that he returned two yards … started three consecutive games at Oregon, vs. USC and at UCLA … after coming off the bench for one game was back as a starter in back-to-back contests at Arizona State and vs. Oregon State … did not play in the team’s regular-season finale at Washington or the Poinsettia Bowl vs. Utah … recorded his first career interception at Minnesota to thwart a fourth-quarter Golden Gopher drive that ended with the pickoff in Cal territory after the Golden Bears had taken a 35-21 lead … second interception came vs. Arizona, when he returned a pick 14 yards after stopping the first Wildcat drive of the second half with Cal trailing 10-9 … forced fumble happened in the second quarter at Arizona State with Cal leading 14-0 when he knocked a ball free that fellow defensive back Brett Johnson picked up at the Cal two-yard line to stop an ASU scoring threat … recorded his first career fumble recovery at Oregon and returned it two yards before giving the ball back to the Ducks with a fumble of his own … also had four tackles and a pass breakup at Oregon in his first career start … posted a season-high-tying eight tackles at UCLA … had five stops both vs. USC when he added a season-high two pass breakups and at Arizona State.

2008

A first-team All-5A Region II District 13 selection after tallying 45 tackles, five interceptions, two forced fumbles and 17 passes defended as a 2007 senior … twice helped his squad to back-to-back 9-3 seasons and trips to the second round of the playoffs as both a junior and senior.
